On the Baeksang red carpet, actors’ smiles pierce women’s hearts

The 47th Baeksang Awards were held on May 26 at 8 p.m. at Peace Hall of Kyunghee University.  Before the actual ceremony began, there was a red carpet event in front of the hall at 6:30 p.m.  One and a half hours before the awards, the actors started arriving and strutted their stuff before the media and fans.

Many fans from inside and outside of Korea arrived early to support their actors, singers, comedians, etc. and to grab a good spot.  As soon as the red carpet event began, cheers and shouting of entertainers’ names could be heard.  When their favourite celebrity appeared, the fans screamed his/her name and cheered thunderously.

They all took turns to stand at the Photo Wall to have their photo taken which would appear on the programme “Smile” on a certain TV station.  All the actors, singers, entertainers smiled generously for the cameras and the public.

Whatever, most of the actors, singers, entertainers who attended satisfied fans with their smiles.  Many women’s hearts were shot by arrows of smiles.

JHJ:  We’re here today to present a special Lifetime Achievement Award.

NGR:  Yes, actually I haven’t seen him before, but I’ve heard a lot about him since childhood.  I’ve also heard my mother speak about him, so I feel he’s someone I have known for a long time.

JHJ:   Probably no actor in our country has not been influenced by him.  I too have a wish and that is to be like him — to remain unchanging and so cool as an actor.

NGR:  Now let us appreciate the works of our favourite predecessor in the film industry of the Republic of Korea.

JHJ:  The winner is Shin Sung Il.

Everybody knows Jo Hyun-Jae is a dog lover.  He has a pet dog and he was a dog soldier when he was in the army.  Some Japanese fans (obviously cat lovers), however, have come up with this curiously cute “JHJ and cats” video.  Can you detect the similarities that they see?  

You have to admire JHJ’s Japanese fans for their imagination and powers of association!  In case the video flashes too fast for you, here are some still pictures.

We went online and did a little research.  According to a 2010 paper published by Sam Gosling of the University of Texas at Austin, the psychologist found in a research that “dog people” are more extroverted, more agreeable, and more conscientious, while “cat people” are more neurotic and more open.  Most people think there are significant differences on major personality traits between dog lovers and cat lovers.  We say: Live and let live — we’re all creatures of God.  And: dog or cat, we love JHJ!

Q:  How are you feeling now?   

A:  I have absolutely no idea that my fans who have always been there for me will be here in force, even more than when I enlisted.  I am so grateful!

Q:  What did you do last night? 

A:   I could hardly sleep.  I was too excited.   

Q:  Do you feel it’s a pity that you’re discharged a day later than Jae Hee? 

A:  Because there was a football match that night, coming out one day later is just fine.

Q:  Who has helped you in the military? 

A:  At the beginning it was very hard.  I received a lot of help from my fellow soldiers.  I am an army dog soldier, so of course I’m thinking about my dogs.  I feel very sad we have to part company.

Q:  We heard you received an autographed CD from the Wonder Girls.

A:  Actually it’s my manager who got it, not me directly.  Wonder Girls are very popular in the military.  I asked my management company to get it for my campmates.

Q:  Which female group livens up your life in the military?

A:  Honestly I can’t choose one, because I like them all.

Q.  How do you feel about life in the army?

A.  Actually it’s not bad at all, in fact, pretty good, very good.

Q:  Which actress would you like to work with?

A:  I’m grateful to every one I’ve worked with.  In any case, I can’t afford to pick and choose now ….. (said to great laughter)

Q:  We heard there are artists who came to see you.

A:  Yes, they are all very close to me — “Seo Dong Yo” alumi like Lee Chang-Hoon, Lee Bo-Young, Ryu Jin and others all came to see me.

Q:  Lee Bo-Young must have created a sensation when she came.

A:  Yes, the whole unit was in a fever.

Q:  How does it feel like to watch the World Cup in the army?

A:  I was on my final furlough then, so I watched the matches outside.

Q:  Which footballer impresses you?

A:  Pak Chi Song.

Q:  Whom will you watch the next match with?

A:  No plans at the moment, maybe with my office colleagues or my good friends.

Q:  Which player would you like to score?

A:  Scoring is great, but if it is Pak Chu Yung, it would be even better..

Q:  What result do you hope for?

A:  3:0

Q:  What are your plans for your next project?

A:  No definite plans at the moment.  Have to look for a good project.

Q:  What would you like to say to your fans who are waiting?

A:  Overseas fans have sent me a lot of letters and parcels when I was serving.  I lack for nothing because of their care and concern, for which I am most grateful.

Q:  Your plans from now on? 

A:  Since I’m already discharged, I’ll repay my fans’ support by appearing before them in my best form and through my best work.  I will see you all very soon.
