Yes, these are 6 years old, but you’ll see that he was essentially the same Jo Hyun-Jae as he is now.  Our favourite answer is #10.

1. What is your strength?

I am attentive in all things.

2. What is your shortcoming?

Lack of ease in associating with strangers and difficulty in flattering others.

4. Favorite Season?

Spring, Summer

5. Who are your close friends?

My elementary school friends,  Ji Jin Hee, and Kim Hyung Jong

6. Your ideal type?

Someone who I feel I can connect with.

7. What sort of a present would you like to receive lately?

There isn’t one thing in particular that I’m wanting at the moment,

but I would be thankful for any kind of present.

8. What do you do when you’re home alone?

Exercise, watch DVDs, or listen to music. I typically try to watch a lot of movies.

9. Are there any games you’re good at (either PC or PS2)?

I don’t like computers, so I don’t play PC games, but I sometimes play Tekken

or soccer games.

10. What kind of present would you want to give to someone you love?

All of myself.

11. If someone you loved cheated on you, what would you do?

I would ask the reason and try my best to understand.

12. What do you like to do on a rainy day?

Meet up with people I am close to, and if I have a girlfriend, I would like to

drive somewhere far with her.

13. What are your most proud moments?

When I gave my mother money that I earned myself, when I didn’t make any mistakes (NG) while filming, and when I celebrated my birthday together with fans.

14.  How fast do you type?

About 1 line per minute? I’m slow.^^

15. What are your top 3 standards when judging another person?

Rather than having strictly 3 things, I look at personality and also compare interests.

16. What’s written on your cellphone LCD screen? Also, what’s your ringtone?

All that’s written is the time, and my ringtone is “I Believe I can Fly.”

17. What movies do you recommend?

“Billy Elliot”, “The Green Mile”

18. What are your sleeping habits?

I sleep clutching my pillow.

19. What is love?

Keeping one person within me. And a mutual wish for wanting to do things together.

20. Favorite sport?

Swimming, basketball, inline skating.

21. When does a woman look her best in your eyes?

When she’s working hard at whatever it is that she is doing.

22. Something you say often?

Ah…. Yes…. That is…..

23. Something you definitely wouldn’t do to others?

Say things that are unpleasant to them, especially hurtful things.

24. What would you do if you were to coincidentally run into someone you had broken up with?

I think I would wish them well.

25. What is the most precious thing in this world?

Family. The person you love. Health.

26.  What if you were born again?

Even if I were reborn, I would still want to be born as who I am now.

27. What do you like the most?

It’s hard to name just one thing.

28. What do you dislike the most?

Being bothered when I’m concentrating.

29. Something you’re better at than other people?

Cleaning? Assembling plastic models.

30. What would you like to say to your fans?

Please always be healthy. I think it’s because of all of you that I

was able to become an actor. Thank you so much for giving me so much love,

and I hope everything (whatever it is) that you are doing or

are hoping for will go well. With all of you present in my mind,

I will work hard in this acting occupation.

1. How do you relieve stress and make yourself feel better?
A. Exercise.

2. What’s the one thing that you feel something is amiss if you don’t have it with you?
A. My cell phone.

3. How many hours do you normally sleep?
A. 2-3 hours when filming and 6-7 hours when not.

4. Are you able to not laze in bed in the morning?
A. If there’s an alarm clock, yes.

5. What do you do when you cannot sleep?
A. Watch DVD or listen to music.

6. What do you wear when you sleep?
A. Loose, comfortable sportswear and shorts.

7. Which part of your body do you feel is the best?
A. My shoulders.

8. Do you have any photos or posters of yourself in your room?
A. No big ones, just a couple of small ones.

9. What would make you depressed during the day?
A. When there is a delay in my schedule.

10. Do you believe in instinct?
A. A little.

A. Dreams are not clear.

A. Should be …..an actor….

A. I’d like to be with the person (people) I love and we’ll go to eat all the good food.

A. I watch quietly and appreciate what I’m watching.

On the 6th anniversary of CAFE, Jo Hyun-Jae answers questions from his fans — everything you want to know about him, and more.

1. Q. JHJ’s vital statistics. Height (Are you 180cm.? You look taller lately.)
A. I’d like to be taller, but I’m still 180 cm.
Shoe size — around 275; leather shoes — 270.
Tops — 95-100. Trousers– 32.

2. Q. What do you think of your fans’ social work activities? (If there’s a chance, would you join such fans’ activities?)
A. I feel very proud and pleased my fans are doing such meaningful work. I should plan to do some good work myself.

3. Q. What perfume* do you use regularly? (*Editor: should be “cologne”)
A. Almost never. Whatever I come across.

4. Q. What kind of food do you like?
A. Korean, Western, Japanese — I like them all.

5. Q. What book do you find most moving?
A. The 4 great tragedies of Shakespeare.

6. Q. What is your daily consumption of tobacco and alcohol?
A. Half a pack of cigarettes a day. As for alcohol, I drink about once every two months, but I drink a lot each time.

7. Q. What do you do when you’re alone?
A. Read, exercise, watch DVDs.

8. Q. If there’s a next life, what do you want to do?
A. Be an actor.

9. Q. What is your dream at birth? (Editor: I’m not sure I understand this question.)
A. A big bathtub full of water, floating in the blue and green water.

10. Q. Do you read all your fan mail?
A. Yes, I try to read them all. Every time I read a letter from a fan, it gives me great strength.

11. Q. In your dramas, what kind of hairstyle do your favour?
A. Depends. I like both short and long hair.

12. Q. What is your latest problem/trouble?
A. Trouble is trying to act in some good dramas for viewers.

13. Q. Which actor would you like to work with?
A. Too many to list, because there are just too many good actors.

14. Q. What is your style? (hairstyle, clothes, etc.)
A. Casual — T-shirt and jeans.

15. Q. Do you still like rainy days?
A. Yes, but I also like fine days.

16. Q. What do you love most?
A. Family, work, people I like, fans, etc.

17. Q. What fruits do you like most?
A. Almost all fruits, but especially grapes, apple, and pear.

18. Q. Where do you want to travel or which place made a deep impression during your previous travels?
A. Italy remains in my mind. I’d like to go there again.

19. Q. When did you learn to ride the bicycle?
A. I mastered the two-wheeled kind when I was around 5.

20. Q. When did you get your driver’s licence?
A. When I was 18.

21. Q. You act very well in crying scenes. Is it difficult to shed tears on the screen?
A. Actually, yes. To be able to do it more naturally I’m trying harder.

22. Q. What is your favourite season?
A. Spring.

23. Q. When do you feel sexiest?
A. Sweating after exercising.

24. Q. Do you like driving at high speed? What is your highest speed?
A. I don’t like driving at high speed.

25. Q. At home how do you call your parents? And how do they call you?
A. Father. Mama. / Son. That’s it.

27. Q. You seem to like jeans and baseball caps a lot. How many do you have?
A. About 30 pairs of jeans and 30-40 caps.

A. Well……..

29. Q. Your martial arts acting is pretty good. Are you good in real-life fighting?
A. I haven’t really fought much. Martial arts acting is based on what I learnt in aikido, coupled with more practice to improve my acting.

30. Q. You sing very well too. Do you plan to release a CD? (or OST)
A. I intend to sing a couple of songs in OST.

31. Q. If you were to shoot a commercial, what kind would you do?
A. Automobiles.

32. Q. If you win the lotto, what would you do?
A. Do some good deeds, then buy some things I want to buy — just ordinary stuff.

33. Q. Whom do you resemble more — your father or your mother?
A. Half/half.

34. Q. Do you still have friends from childhood?
A. From primary school.

35. Q. When you’re physically and mentally exhausted, whom do you think of first, family or friends?
A. Family.

36. Q. What is your ideal girl?
A. Bright, pretty (not necessarily in looks.)

25. Q. You once said: “I think too much.” What do you think about most?
A. My future, the future.

26. Q. You also said: “My character is not bad.” What do you say is your best trait?
A. When I do anything, I always concentrate. I always focus and do my best.

27. Q. What is your most stringent demand on yourself?
A. I am very demanding of myself in work. When I’m working, I won’t do anything else (even if it’s something I like very much.)

28. Q. What is it that you cherish and do not want to lose?
A. My family. Also people I like and my work.

29. Q. When do you feel most happy and relaxed?
A. When work goes smoothly and I’m focusing. Or doing something I’m interested in.

A. I am me.

31. Q. Of all the movies you’ve seen recently, which actors left the deepest impression on you?
A. Song Kang-Ho and Jeon Do-Yeon in “Secret Sunshine”?

A. Just like before, no change. I like soothing ballads.

A. I didn’t download any special ring tone. I just use the cell phone’s default ring tone.

A. Most of the time I just grin and bear it and gradually unwind. Generally I exercise to decompress.

A. Being an actor. Being with my family and friends makes me happy.

A. I’ve said this before — playing golf.

37. Q. Which actors are you closest to?
A. Kim Kang-Woo, Ryu Jin, Lee Chun-Hee.

A. Actually I like them, but I have a delicate stomach, so I can’t eat them regularly.

A. I do not distinguish between ajumas and other fans. To me they are all fans who like me. I’m very grateful to you all. I really appreciate the way fans encourage and support me, like I’m a member of their family.

45. Q. We feel it’s better if there are more fans who call you “oppa” (Editor: big brother). How do you feel about fans who are older than you?
A. I am grateful to all my fans. But up to now most of my fans are young girls. That’s why I hope there are more older fans and men who like me more and more.

46. Q. What roles do you want to play?
A. I’d like to play a man of character in a drama with a unique plot and emotional development.

47. Q. What is your dream?
A. I hope to continue to work hard so I can earn people’s recognition.

Hi, everyone! I’m very happy to bring you this good news today. Last time after our EVER get-together, we passed along a few questions to Mr. Jo Hyun-Jae. We didn’t really expect him to reply. We just wanted him to know what his fans were doing and how we were supporting him. We were perfectly happy after we delivered everything to him. Imagine our surprise when we received his reply yesterday. He answered each and every question diligently. We were so moved!

Everyone, here are Mr. Jo Hyun Jae’s answers –

Mr. Jo, we wish to know:

1. Q. What size jeans do you wear?
A. Size 32 as a general rule. Size 31 if the cutting is larger.

2. Q. What about size for tops? (Please be specific.)
A. T-shirts, shirts, etc. — size 95. Smaller cutting — size 100.

3. Q. Shoe size? (for both sports shoes and leather shoes, please.)
A. Sports shoes 275 or 280. Leather shoes 270.

4. Q. Where does your pet dog “ssing-yi” sleep?
A. Mostly in my mother’s or sister’s room.

5. Q. What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
A. Drink water.

6. Q. Do you have a particular sleep posture?
A. Sleeping on my arm/hand.

7. Q. What is the last thing you do before you go to sleep? or want to do?
A. Take a bath, watch TV, and slowly sink into sleep.

8. Q. Do you wear pyjamas when you sleep? What kind of pyjamas?
A. Comfortable sporty kind of wear, like sleeveless T-shirt and shorts.

9. Q. When you sleep, what is your posture like? Do you lie on your back or on your side? (right or left side?) or do you lie on your stomach?
A. I move a lot when I sleep, so except for lying on my stomach, I assume all kinds of postures.

10. Q. What kind of alcoholic beverage do you like?
A. Wine or champagne. I like low alcohol content drinks.

11. Q. When you drive, generally what is your speed?
A. Within the speed limit.

12. Q. Who are your closest friends? When did you start making friends with them?
A. Old schoolmates from junior high.

13. Q. When you surf the net, what websites do you visit? (not counting fans’ websites)
A. Except when I’m looking for something, I hardly go online.

14. Q. Do you and your sisters chat a lot?
A. Yes, we do. Mostly ordinary chit-chat. Sometimes we discuss scripts.

15. Q. We heard you’re the youngest in your family. Do you sometimes play mommy’s little boy?
A. Yes. For example, sometimes I’m exhausted from filming and don’t have enough sleep. When my mother wakes me up, I throw a little tantrum.

16. Q. What kind of make-up do you use? What brand?
A. Even though it’s not for men, I now use the skin-care products that my sister recommends — from Jurlique.

17. Q. How do you take care of your skin?
A. If I have time, I go to a skin clinic. If I have no time, I just wash thoroughly and use a facial mask.

18. Q. How is your tolerance for alcohol? Do you engage in any crazy drunken acts?
A. Normally I don’t drink much, and I don’t over-drink to a dangerous extent. So I can’t think of any drunken acts. If I have to say, well, maybe sleep?

19. Q. When do you expect to get married?
A. When I’ve almost reached my target…..maybe when I feel most blessed, then I’d like to get married.

20. Q. When you’re in a relationship with a girlfriend, what do you find unbearable?
A. Unreasonable behaviour. Bad manners.

21. Q. Or perhaps, if she possesses some special charming qualities that you like and you could tolerate everything about her, what would it be?
A. I don’t have any special requirements. Just a woman with whom I can communicate.

22. Q. A charming woman and a gentle woman — which one do you like? (like the female leads in the TV drama “My Man’s Woman”)
A. I think I like them all.

23. Q. If your girlfriend said to you one day: “Please give me your most precious thing.” What would you do?
A. Of course I’ll give it to her immediately.

24. Q. Of all the female leads in your dramas, which one do you like best? (Not the actresses themselves but their roles in the dramas — Eun-Ha…..Shi-Yeon…..Eun-Jae…..Princess Sun-Hwa……….etc.)
A. Difficult to say……If I have to, then I’d say Princess Sun-Hwa.
