There are only two episodes left of “49 Days”, but speculations are rife about a big reversal* at the ending because of what the actors said during an interview.  [ED: "reversal" in Korean means something surprising or unexpected.] 

SBS’s LATE NIGHT TV ENTERTAINMENT show (broadcast after May 12 episode) interviewed the actors of ”49 Days”.  They mentioned things about the ending that aroused a lot of attention.
 
First JHJ throws out this speculation: ” If NGR could live, that would be wonderful!  Or could it be a complete tragedy?”

Then there is JIW who plays the Scheduler: “Even though it will be a happy ending, it could also be a little sad.”

BSB follows up with: “I wish I could cry for her [Ji-Hyun], but the Min-Ho in the drama does not seem to be capable of that.” 

But it is SJH’s understatement that sounds most significant: “Seems there will be a big reversal.”

After the programme aired, SJH’s statement aroused a lot of viewers’ attention and there appeared online various speculations.
 
Also, in Episode 18 the way the Scheduler reacts when he receives his last schedule list is revealing.  He says: “This last schedule list is also full, let’s see”, and then he checks the schedule list for those who have to take the elevator, sees something and pauses.  This has aroused a lot of speculation.

That is why a lot of netizens, reacting to SJH’s mention of a reversal, speculate the one to die is not Ji-Hyun but someone else. 

Some netizens think either In-Jung or Min-Ho will be taken to the elevator.

Others speculate Ji-Hyun and Yi-Kyung may be sisters.  The proof lies in the “whistle” that JH’s father tells  her to use when in danger.  Sharp-eyed viewers also see a whistle in YK’s chest at home, so they speculate they may be sisters.

Also, JH’s mother cannot drink ox-tail soup and YK also gets sick after drinking this soup.  This is another reason for thinking maybe JH and YK are sisters.
 
In the May 12 episode, JH gets two drops of tears and miraculously opens her eyes after being comatose all this time.
 
That day the doctor says: “There is no hope medically, so please give up.”  JH’s mother is sobbing uncontrollably and See-Yu by her side also cries.
 
At the same time YK is moved by JH’s presents and letter and sheds tears for her.

According to statistics released by ratings agency AGB on May 13, the May 12 episode of “49 Days” again broke its own record.

It registered a high of 15.4% (nationwide), a rise of 0.6% over the previous night’s rating.  Ji-Hyun (NGR) has only one day left and the reversal of her destiny creates a record rating.

In Episode 18, JH gives up and is ready to die.  She asks the Scheduler to summon the elevator.

Watching over JH on her hospital bed and hearing the doctor say there is no hope, JH’s mother and her good friend See Yu cries.

At the same time, Yi-Kyung sees the gifts JH leaves behind for her and sheds tears.

JH is all set to die, but suddenly she gets all 3 drops of tears.  The very last shot shows the comatose JH opening her eyes.

“Until the moment Ji-Hyun leaves, I will never give up!”

In the SBS Wed./Thu. drama “49 Days”, the backhug between LYW and JHJ moves a lot of viewers.  

In Episode 17 of “49 Days” on May 11, the way Han Kang (JHJ) tries desperately to save Ji-Hyun (NGR) portrays his lone struggle.  

Han Kang searches frantically for Yi-Kyung who leaves home to avoid Ji-Hyun.  YK accepts HK and JH’s pleadings and agrees not to go to Busan, as well as to help JH in the remaining ten days.  

HK waits anxiously outside YK’s home for JH.  He gazes wistfully at YK with JH’s soul in her but can only ask to shake her hand which makes viewers feel like crying.  

YK possessed by JH says to HK: ”Please pretend this never happened in this life.  Forget about this love.”  HK replies: “Until the moment Ji-Hyun leaves, I will never give up!” - Confessing his feelings loud and clear.  

Han Kang carries on: “Please don’t say these things to JH.”  Then he turns to leave, when YK (actually JH) is so moved that she suddenly embraces him from behind.  The unspoken love between the two moves a lot of viewers.  

Viewers commented: “HK’s love that will not give up on a soul moves one to tears.” “The way HK looks at JH and every word he says to her is so touching.” “Hope HK can save JH.” etc., etc. – expressing fervent support for their love.  

“49 Days” will end on May 19 after all 20 episodes have been broadcast, with three episodes remaining.

2011.05.12           “49 Days” stays in #1 spot

According to ratings agency AGB, SBS’s Wed./Thu. drama “49 Days” scored 14.8% nationwide for its May 11 episode, a rise of 0.1% over last week’s rating.  “49 Days” is not only rising in the ratings but also breaking its own records, staying firmly in the #1 place.

Ratings for the two other dramas in the same time slot are as follows: MBC’s “Greatest love” – 12.1% and KBS’s “City of romance”- 8.6%.

In Episode 17 SYK decides to do all she can to help SJH in the time she has remaining.  She coldly tells KMH who has come to question her: ”I left SJH in Busan and returned here by myself.  If you want to find her, go look for her yourself.” – trying to protect SJH.
