though i loved every scenes..but my fave is the O.R. scene where a tear came from JHJ & the beach scene where they kissed..very passionate & you can really feel the love between them..

I also read in another site that one could look at love letter’s ending like that of st francis of assisi and st clare – good friends who have god above their love.

The fairy tale that andrea reads – the sister became the moon and the brother became the sun. They helped each other out of their situations but are serving the world as sun and moon – never to meet as lovers.
I saw love letter as a story of pure love. The characters struggle with possessiveness as opposed to love and letting go. So at the end when andrea says to “love all over again” – it was to still love, in an un possessive way.

His coat over her shoulder (the last scene) as he wheels her to see the view is his support for her. But he in his collar, is his commitment to holy orders.

I did contend with some issues too – like religious orders are not for one who is running away as also mentioned in the classic ” Sound of Music” with julie andrews. The mother superior there said the convent was not a place to run away to when she sang ‘climb every mountain’. But throughout love letter one sees andrea turning to the peace of the church for solace. He just sits there for comfort each time he is lost and upset.
The camera’s going towards him as he returns to the talk to god about not bargaining with him and that he loved god and he left euna’s life in his hands was symbolic to me that as he turned to god in all his problems (throughout the show) god was now welcoming him home cos throughout it all andrea’s love for god was stronger.

He was torn as a man and as a servant , a priest. So the drama really helped me see the struggles one would face as a religious. If jhj does consider the priesthood i guess we can only pray for him. God has good taste in who he selects

Haha i have been teased by my friends that i was some literature prof of the show – i think i am just a nutcase – where love letter is still my most favourite drama. My kids can vouch for that. Make believe though it may be, the story helped me see certain things differently and thanks to jhj’s great acting!

Re: scene of Andrea and Eun-ha sleeping together. I am a Roman Catholic, I, too, was bothered the first time I saw that scene. But eventually, after so many viewings, I realized that that scene is a sort of test of the strength of Andrea’s priestly convictions. And he passed the test – nothing happened.

But I do agree with your point about Andrea’s reasons for joining the priesthood again – to satisfy Eun-ha’s urgings. And his superiors accepted his justifications – what the heck?!?!? If it was real life, he would have been booted out of that meeting pronto! But it is a drama, so he was accepted into the fold once again! WTH?!?!? But after many viewings of Love Letter, I just tend to skip over that part of the drama, because I refuse to let the writer’s illogical story ruin my enjoyment of JHJ as Andrea – the most beautiful, purest and sweetest priest to grace the screen ever!
