I think part of the reason for JHJ's admiration for Pacino's brand of acting is that it is so different from his own style. I also think JHJ is attracted to the type of characters that Pacino has portrayed because they are so different from the characters he has portrayed thus far and from his own personality. He wants to challenge himself, and I admire him more because of that. An actor who is truly serious about his craft should not be afraid to go beyond his (acting) comfort zone.

Michelle, I agree with you a hundred percent. No matter who he admires or who his role model is, JHJ puts his own stamp on the characters he portrays.

You're right, Michelle! JHJ will be JHJ, not Al Pacino or Robert de Niro.

When JHJ returns, he will be more confident in his acting and will have his own style.
Certainly not Al Pacino, not Robert de Niro.

I've always found it inconceivable that an understated actor like JHJ should so admire an actor like Al Pacino who invariably overacts, perhaps to compensate for his small stature (his size is small by American standards.) JHJ would be wise to look up to an actor like Robert de Niro whose "The Deerhunter" is among my all-time favourites.
