CAFE’s gifts to JHJ

November 11 is an important day — Veterans Day in the U.S., Remembrance Day in the British Commonwealth, Armistice Day in France and Belgium, Independence Day in Poland, etc.
In South Korea they celebrate a light-hearted holiday called Pepero Day on November 11. Pepero is named after the Korean snack Pepero — a cookie stick dipped in chocolate syrup, manufactured by Lotte since 1983. It was inspired by the Japanese product, Pocky, produced by Glico.
The date 11/11 resembles four Pepero sticks. Pepero Day is observed mainly by young people and couples who exchange Pepero sticks, candies, and romantic gifts.
CAFE (Korean and Japan) sent Jo Hyun-Jae lots of Pepero sticks on November 11. The second photo shows what may be “Man in black” — a classy brand of Pepero with chocolate cookie bits scattered throughout the chocolate dip. There are also other sticks — cheese sticks and beef jerky, as well as the usual ginseng, chocolate, fruit, phone card (with JHJ and his army dog on it), SCREEN magazine, paper towels, etc.
Since winter is coming, they have also sent warm socks and gloves (some waterproof) for his winter training. There is something with the words “Blister Hunter” on it. Your guess is as good as ours. And then there is the black gadget called “Touch Stone” with an Anycall travel charger. In short, these loyal and considerate JHJ fans have thought of everything and provided for his every need.

So that’s what Pepero Day is all about! I haven’t tried Pepero yet, don’t know if they are available here in the Philippines. But I’ve tried Pocky which is available at SM Supermarket, the one from Japan costs about P80/box (less than US$2), while the one from Malaysia (or Thailand?) costs only P30/box (less than US$1). Pocky from Japan is better, the cookie stick is crunchier. Love the choco flavor, my daughter prefers strawberry.
The CAFE fans are really very thoughtful!
