My country just experienced a devastating calamity and my husband and I are going to volunteer our services to our parish church to help with relief operations. My family was spared from the floods (our house is located on high ground), but many others are not so fortunate. So, don't go worrying that something terrible has happened to me (gasp) or that I have given up on JHJ (not very likely!) if you don't see me making comments to your articles. Psychologists call this fan phenomena the "celebrity worship syndrome" (CWS). I researched on this when I became a fan of JHJ because I wanted to know if I should seek psychological help for my JHJ "fanship" (hahahaha) because I have never experienced being a fan before. According to the articles I have read, there are 3 levels of CWS: entertainment-social, intense-personal, and borderline-pathological. I was so happy to find out that I am in the entertainment-social stage which, according to the articles I have read, doesn't need clinical measures. I was thinking of writing an article about CWS for wuliJHJ but it was too high-brow for me that I scrapped the idea. But wuliJHJ is quite right when they said that this problems about "fanship" is an individual thing. According to the articles I have read, for a fan to reach the second and third stages of CWS there should be an underlying psychological problem in the individual already (like depression, stress, low self-esteem, etc.). I tried to research the effect of CWS on the partner/spouse of the person having CWS, unfortunately I didn't find any. But I think that, again, wuliJHJ is right in saying that for a person to feel jealous of the celebrity his/her partner/spouse admires is a sign of an underlying psychological problem. I am glad to say that my husband doesn't feel jealous at all about my "fanship" of JHJ, in fact he teases me about it sometimes. I have to say this, though, I intend to keep my distance from JHJ because I am afraid that if I see him in person I would progress to the second level of CWS (hehehe). I am content to admire him from a distance - watching his shows, sending cards of encouragement to him once in a while, contributing articles/comments for this blog once in a while to help spread the word about the wonderful actor JHJ, but that's just about it. I admit too that I am curious about his personal life, but I am quite content with what he's willing to share of his private life to the public. I am so happy for the fan who received an autographed mousepad from JHJ! I hope that her traumatic experience with a fellow JHJ fan did not stop her from admiring JHJ.
